1/4 ounce simple syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitter

2 ounces Cognac or brandy
1 ounce Cointreau
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
Superfine sugar
Orange or lemon wedge
Run the cut edge of a lemon around rim of glass; dip rim in superfine sugar. Combine remaining ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well until chilled, about 10 seconds. Strain into prepared glass; garnish with a wedge of orange or lemon.

½ ounce honey syrup
1 ounce lemon juice
2 ounces gin
For the honey syrup, combine equal parts honey and water in a small saucepan. Warm over the stovetop just until you can completely stir the honey into the water. Next, fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the cooled honey syrup, lemon juice, and gin. Shake until the mixture is very cold, about 30 seconds. Strain the drink into a coupe or w glass.
