What began as a single-day race in Schenley Park in 1983, has grown into a full-
fledged Motorsport Festival. This 10 Day Race Week is now packed with 12 events including
two race weekends.
Pittsburgh’s automotive scene is set to ignite with the return of the highly anticipated Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, a ten-day extravaganza that promises to captivate car enthusiasts and casual observers alike. From July 22 to August 4, the city will transform into a haven for vintage car aficionados, featuring a series of events that blend high-speed excitement, classic car exhibitions, and community celebrations.
Anchoring the historics at Pitt Race from July 26-28, the GT40 Reunion will showcase over 50 of these iconic racing machines. The sleek, powerful GT40s, renowned for their dominance in the 24 Hours of Le Mans during the 1960s, will take center stage, offering a nostalgic journey through motorsport history. Adding to the charm, MINI has been named the Marque of the Year, ensuring that these beloved compact cars will be omnipresent, from the race tracks to car shows.
A unique spotlight this year falls on microcars, with Jeff Lane presenting a curated collection from the Lane Motor Museum. These tiny wonders will intrigue attendees with their quirky designs and innovative engineering.
The event will be graced by several automotive luminaries. David Hobbs, an accomplished racer and broadcaster, will serve as Honorary Race Director. Bill Warner, founder of the esteemed Amelia Island Concours, will assume the role of Grand Marshal, participating in the new ‘Evening of Speed’ parade and reception on August 2 at Schenley Park. Local legend Jim Boffo, known for his racing and mechanical prowess, will wave the starting flag as Honorary Starter. Additionally, poster artist Todd Cook will be present, showcasing his creative work for the event.

Race Week Activities
Race Week is brimming with activities, starting with the Walnut Street Invitational on July 22. The glamorous Black Tie & Tailpipes Gala at PPG Wintergarden on July 26 promises an evening of elegance and automotive splendor. The Waterfront Car Cruise on July 29, followed by the western-style Stampede & Roundup at Rosa’s Cantina in Sewickley on July 30, will add a diverse flair to the celebrations.
On July 31, car enthusiasts can indulge in the Downtown Car Show at Market Square and PPG Place, followed by the Tune-Up Car Showcase at SouthSide Works.
The festivities extend into August with the inaugural Grand Prix Garden Party at Phipps Conservatory on August 1. The Drivers Parade & Reception on August 2 will see race cars parading past Phipps and concluding at the Frick Fine Arts Building at Schenley Plaza. Ragtime
Racers and Vintage Indy will set up the ‘Exhibitions of Speed’ Paddock on Schenley Drive during both events and on the weekend when they compete on the track. You can even catch a ride in a 1920’s Brass-Era Ragtime Racer on the weekend.
The climax of the event, the August 3-4 Vintage weekend, will host 19 different car shows, supported by over 50 car clubs. Many shows will embrace a “mini” theme, highlighting diminutive yet iconic vehicles like Bantam Cars, Nash Metropolitans, BMW Isettas, and Japanese Kei Vehicles. The Cortile Italian Car Show will focus on Autovetture Piccole, while the French Quarter Car Show will showcase the Ineos Grenadier.

Community Involvement
Beyond the thrill of racing, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix underscores a profound commitment to the community. Over the years, the event has donated $6.7 million to Autism Pittsburgh and Merakey Allegheny Valley School. This year, the goal is to surpass the $7 million mark, reflecting the event’s dedication to making a difference.
The success of the Grand Prix is fueled by the tireless efforts of volunteers, sponsors, and partners. Their year-round dedication ensures the seamless execution of this beloved tradition.
