Q: How long have you practiced yoga?
A: I’ve practiced yoga for 17 years.  My brother took me to my first class when I was 17 years old and I loved it from the start.

Q: What started you on your journey to becoming an instructor and opening your own studio?
A:
When I graduated college in 2010, I opened a personal training business.  I eventually started doing bootcamps at 5:30 in the mornings at a local park.  On the days where everyone was really sore and in need of recovery, we would do yoga and everbody loved it.  I decided to go to Arizona to obtain my yoga instructors certification from Baron Baptiste.  I worked at several studios when I returned home, but always knew that I wanted to open my own in the Robinson area.  When the space became available in Robinson, I decided to make the move to open Pure Power Yoga.

Q: What type of yoga does your studio practice?
A: Our studio practices heated power vinyasa yoga.  The studio is heated to 90 degrees and 60 percent humidity.  It’s not only a great workout, but also a great way to keep your body flexible and to help prevent injuries.

Q: What is Pure Power Yoga’s philosophy?
A: Pure Power Yoga is a way of living—both in and out of the studio. Our students leave empowered, inspired, and lit up to take on their life – and they inspire others.

Q: With the busy holiday season upon us, many people can feel stressed and burned out. Do you have a personal routine that gets you through the busy times?
A: I personally practice yoga every day, either at home or in studio.  Whether it is a rigorous 60 minutes, or just 15 minutes of yin poses and deep breathing, I find that a daily practice helps keep me feeling great, both physically and mentally.  When the pandemic hit, I decided to start an online channel to help people stay active and to have an outlet to be able to escape all of the stress and anxiety of the situation.  I only planned on recording videos for a few weeks during the lockdown, but so many people enjoyed it that there I now have an online library of over 170 different videos on Vimeo. The videos are perfect for anyone looking to add some movement to their routine during the holiday season – and  I offer everyone their first 30 days free by using the code “PracticeAtOM” at checkout.

Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in starting yoga?
A: My advice for someone interested in starting yoga would be to just pick a day and get started, whether it’s in studio or online.  All the time I hear people say, “I’m not flexible enough to do yoga” and I tell them, “that is exactly the point!”  If you need more flexibility, strength, or even inner peace, yoga helps with all of that.  I remind new yogis that everyone was a beginner at some point.  I also always tell beginners to get a spot in the back of the room so that they can learn by watching the people in front of them.

Q: What can someone expect from their first class?
A: Our staff and yoga community at the studio are super friendly and accommodating to newcomers.  You will definitely feel welcome when you walk through our studio doors.  I tell newcomers to wear comfortable clothing, hydrate well, and never hesitate to ask questions because we are always happy to help.

Q: Who can benefit from yoga?
A: I believe that everyone can benefit from practicing yoga.  Yoga is a holistic approach towards health and well-being which makes it so much more than just a workout.  Yoga connects the body with thought processes, leaving the practitioner stronger both physically and mentally.

Q: What’s next for Pure Power Yoga?
A: We are always offering new things at the studio.  We have several workshops on the horizon, including arm balancing and a yin-restorative workshop.  We lead several retreats per year, both locally and internationally.  Our international retreat is in Tulum, Mexico in February 2023, and we have a local retreat to Stonewall Resort in West Virginia every fall.  We are also working on launching our teacher training program so that we can certify instructors of our own.
