February’s Bite of the Month: Coast & Main

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to indulge in some of the world’s most delicious and sensual foods. One food that has long been considered an aphrodisiac is the oyster. These succulent mollusks have been enjoyed for centuries for their unique texture, subtle flavor, and reputed ability to stir up feelings of desire. If you’re looking for a truly romantic meal this Valentine’s Day, look no further than Coast & Main’s delectable oysters.

Oysters are a delicacy that have been enjoyed for centuries. They have been depicted in art and literature throughout history, and have been praised for their aphrodisiac properties. The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that oysters had the power to increase sexual desire and fertility. This belief was so strong that the ancient Roman emperor Nero is said to have consumed large quantities of oysters to boost his libido.

While the scientific evidence supporting the aphrodisiac properties of oysters is limited, there is no debate on the flavor and freshness of Coast & Main’s offerings. The restaurant hosts an array of Pacific Northwest-inspired dishes, with a diverse menu filled with an assortment of the finest seafood flown in daily.

Their half-shell oysters are hand-shucked and served on  ice, with several delicious accompaniments such as mignonette, lemon, and hot sauce. The restaurant offers different oyster varieties daily based on availability – allowing you to sample the subtle differences in flavor profiles of the many available types. For those of you hesitant to try raw oysters, I highly recommend giving the Oysters Rockefeller a try. This classic dish features the same mouthwatering half-shell oysters, mixed with a rich buttery herb filling and topped with crispy breadcrumbs, then baked to perfection.

After sampling this month’s best bite, we suggest the cooked-to-perfection center-cut filet mignon or the stuffed grilled swordfish with roasted red pepper cream. Finish the night off by sharing their signature fried ice cream banana split, featuring cinnamon-habanero ice cream and candied bacon for a dining experience that is sure to set the mood this Valentine’s Day – or any day.

Coast & Main is located at 705 Mall Circle Drive, Monroeville, PA 15636 and they are currently open Tuesday – Saturday. coastandmain.com
